BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Spanish school of the first third of the twentieth century.
"View of Madrid".
Oil on canvas.
Signed "Regoyos".
Measurements: 50 x 80 cm; 66 x 95 cm (frame).
The composition shows a view of the Hospital de San Carlos, as it was in the early twentieth century, in the neighborhood of Lavapiés. In the foreground, a leafy park opens up, with a grove of dark green tones and loose brushstrokes, which allow a glimpse of the ground bathed in the evening light. The branches and leaves seem to be constructed with quick, almost pointillist touches.
The urban background shows the monumental red brick buildings, whose walls catch the last golden reflections of the setting sun. The twilight brings out sienna, orange and violet hues, creating a warm contrast with the bluish shaded areas of the park. The whole set conveys a serene, melancholic and vibrant atmosphere, where the gaze slips between nature and architecture.
The treatment of light and color, together with the loose stroke and tonal variations, refers to the style of Regoyos, especially to his views of cities at dusk or his urban landscapes bathed by changing lights. It is a tribute to the Asturian painter.
