BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

VÍCTOR HERRERO GAIXET (Barcelona, 1949).
"Portrait of Michele Marullo Tarcaniota", October 2019, modeled after the Sandro Boticelli belonging to the Guardans Cambó family.
Mixed media and collage on canvas.
Signed and dated in pencil in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 73 x 60 cm; 93 x 80 cm (frame).

The piece takes as reference the "Portrait of Michele Marullo Tarcaniota" by Sandro Botticelli, standing out for being the only work of the Renaissance painter exhibited in a museum in Spain: the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia.

J.V. Herrero Gaixet was initiated in the art of painting in 1981 by the painter Sanvisens and the painter Chari Muñoz. Later, he would derive concerns and searches for new ways of feeling and living with art. Exhibitions would arrive in Terrassa, Sant Cugat, Mataró, Barcelona, New York, Rome. Biennial of Catalan Contemporary Art. Favorable reviews. Works in museums in San Francisco and Florida. Awards... In 1997, he moves away from the gaze of the commercial circuits; art, for this author, ceases to behave as an enriching and spiritual escape, which had always been part of his cultural enrichment. However, he has never stopped realizing and investigating, embracing every experience that the world was giving him. Getting to the soul of drawing and painting leads him to write essays on children's drawing, and, lately, the most ambitious writing, with the title Del trazo infantil a las vanguardias, giving lectures at the UB and private centers, presenting Los procesos naturales del dibujo infantil y las conexiones con el arte (The natural processes of children's drawing and connections with art). As of 2017, collage forms a very important part of Gaixet's work. Metamorphosing advertising posters torn from the street and giving them new life becomes the center of deliberation between painting and communication. Giving a new meaning and life to that which would have ended up in oblivion and destroyed by the weather, becomes a creative process. From this found pigment the anecdote is born, as well as the invented characters and figures. The mentally rigorous and colorful landscape. As well as other compositions inspired by notes and preparatory works made in 5 volumes between 2010 and 2020.
