Carmen Rodríguez de Legísima was born in a bourgeois rural Galician family, marked by catholic and conservative traditions. From a young age she showed an introspective and spiritual character that she expressed in painting, her natural way of expression, also shared with her sister Matilde. Although she studied to be a teacher in Madrid, she never practiced, dedicating herself entirely to art in a self-taught manner, without formal academic training.
After the death of her parents, the family moved to Vigo, where Carmen continued to create. Her first individual exhibition was in 1943 in Madrid, thanks to the support of the painter Salaverría, and that same year she participated in a collective exhibition in London. Although her recognition in Galicia came late, in the 60s and 70s her work gained visibility with key exhibitions in Madrid and Vigo.
He painted until the end of his life, even after suffering an illness that paralyzed his right hand, learning to use his left hand so as not to abandon his vocation. His legacy, present in museums such as the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art and the Castrelos Museum, includes portraits, still lifes and landscapes, with a dense and colorful brushstroke. Enrique Lafuente Ferrari described her as a "feminine Solana", reflecting her strength and uniqueness in Spanish art.
