In this marine set on the coast of Normandy, Carles Nadal develops one of the most significant themes of his mature production: the port landscape understood as a scenario structured by drawing and exalted by color. The composition combines coastal architecture, lighthouse, boats and figures in a space clearly organized by defined contours that give solidity to the scene.
The chromatism, vibrant and luminous, articulates the surface through intense blues, nuanced whites and red accents that energize the whole. The Atlantic light, colder and more changeable than the Mediterranean, is interpreted with a personal sensitivity that transforms the motif into a stylized and optimistic vision. The formal simplification and compositional clarity reinforce the lyrical character of the work, fully recognizable within the artist's most appreciated repertoire.
Son of the painter Santiago Nadal, Carles Nadal trained in Barcelona and later in Paris, where he joined the circles of the Paris School, participating in the Présence de l'Homme group and the Salons d'Automne. He later resided in Belgium, consolidating an international career with exhibitions in France, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. He was distinguished with the Grand Prix de Spa (Belgium) and appointed member of the Royal Academy of London.
His work is represented in institutions such as the MACBA (Barcelona), the Spa Museum (Belgium) and the Royal Museum of Brussels.
