DESCRIPTION
OSCAR FERNÁNDEZ MORERA (Cuba, 1880-1946).
"Marina", 1935.
Oil on panel.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 30 x 60 cm; 59,5 x 90 cm (frame).
The work presents a serene and evocative atmosphere, centered on the luminous effect of the setting sun on the surface of the sea. The artist builds the composition from the contrast between the dark mass of the rock and the golden vibration of the water, where the light is fragmented in reflections that guide the gaze towards the horizon.
Oscar Fernandez Morera was a Cuban painter considered the precursor of the plastic arts in his native city. His painting, with naturalistic roots, incorporates a special sensitivity to light and atmosphere, traits that influenced later generations of artists in the region.
His legacy has been recognized with the creation of the Oscar Fernandez Morera Art Gallery in Sancti Spíritus, where his works are kept.
