BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GERARDO PITA (Madrid, 1950).
"Knitting bobbins", 2000.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 41 x 35 cm; 62 x 56 cm (frame).
In this realist work, Pita Pita is concerned with the relationship between everyday objects, material memory and symbolic representation. In this piece, the artist takes as a starting point an element traditionally associated with domestic craftsmanship. From the formal point of view, the work is articulated through attention to detail and the presence of the object as a visual structure. The repetition, arrangement and possible seriality of the elements refer to a constructive logic that transcends the anecdotal.
Gerardo Pita, originally from Madrid, developed an artistic interest since his youth, in fact, at the age of thirteen he entered for the first time a painting competition, in which he received a gold medal, and a year later a bronze medal. This interest in painting and drawing led him to enroll in the career of Architecture. Although in 1972, he abandoned this facet to devote himself entirely to the practice of painting. He held his first exhibition in 1976 at the Vandrés Gallery in Madrid, which was followed by many others in important art centers such as; Fisher Fine Art Limited Gallery in London, Staempfli Gallery in New York, Club Financiero Génova, Eude Gallery in Barcelona, Hollis Taggart Galleries (Washington and New York) and the Leandro Navarro Gallery in Madrid, among others. His work is characterized by the use of a hyperrealist aesthetic, loaded with a very personal lyricism. Today his work can be visited in art collections of great relevance such as; Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, Arkansas Arts Foundation Collection, E. F. Hulton Collection (New York).F Hulton Collection (New York), Seavest of contemporary Realism Collection (New York), Melon University Collection (Pennsylvania), Exxon Company Collection, Baron Thyssen- Bornemisza Collection (Lugano, Switzerland), Hunt Institute Collection (Pennsylvania), Argentaria Collection (Madrid), Caja de Brugos Collection, Palacete de la Magdalene Collection (Oviedo), and Fundación Suñol Collection (Barcelona), among others.
