BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

CASIMIRO MARTÍNEZ TARRASSÓ (Sarrià, Barcelona, 1898 - Barcelona, 1980).
"Catalan Pyrenees, Region high Pallars Izabarre", 1942.
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner. Signed, dated and located on the back.
Measurements: 59 x 55 cm; 72 x 77 cm (frame).

As in the rest of Tarrassó's works, this painting highlights the personality of the coloring and the vivid chromatic hallmarks that give rise to a painting full of vitality and expressive force. The exalted chromatism responds to a careful and thoughtful study, where greens and purples are contrasted with warm vermilions and ochres.

Tarrassó, trained at La Lonja School in Barcelona and in Paris, was an outstanding landscape painter influenced by Fauvism, which is reflected in his style of intense and luminous colors. Inspired by Joaquín Mir but with his own personality, he mainly painted Catalan and Majorcan landscapes, as well as still lifes. He exhibited for the first time in 1928 and developed an extensive career with exhibitions in several Spanish cities. Mallorca was key in his work: since 1940 he had a studio there and produced much of his work. He participated in National Exhibitions and carried out both individual exhibitions and singular projects, such as painting in the Caves of Campanet. Although he focused on landscapes, he also painted murals. He received several important awards between 1962 and 1973 and his work is preserved in collections and museums, especially in Mallorca.
