DESCRIPTION
HELGE HELME (Roskilde, 1894 - Copenhagen, 1987).
"Female nude".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
In good general condition according to the age.
Measurements: 46 x 38,5 cm; 62 x 54,5 cm (with frame).
Delicate study of female nude in which Helme deploys a painting of loose brushstroke but carefully modulated, sensitively capturing the softness of the forms and the serenity of the moment. The figure, depicted with her back slightly twisted, turns her face towards the viewer in an intimate and restrained gesture, reinforcing the introspective character of the scene.
Helme developed a production centered on figures at rest or in a contemplative attitude, conceived as idealized forms of timeless beauty. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Denmark (1918-1920), his painting is characterized by compositional rigor and a slow execution, far from the quick sketch, which gives his works a refined and meditative quality.
Throughout his career he traveled throughout Europe - Great Britain, Germany, France, among other countries - and exhibited regularly in Denmark. His recognition was reflected in distinctions such as the Ronge Scholarship (1927), and today his work is represented in collections such as the Copenhagen City Museum.
