Signed in Madrid in 1993, this work of Antonio José Murado belonging to the series "Marañas" synthesizes the most characteristic features of his approach to expressionist figuration during that decade. In this case, the composition is built from a dense and organic plot, where the forms seem to intertwine until they verge on abstraction, evoking natural structures without describing them in a literal way. The predominant use of red and gold tones stands out, which replace the colder ranges of other works of the period and provide a greater symbolic and emotional chargeThrough this chromatic combination and a gestural brushstroke, Murado reinforces the almost tactile character of the work, where the painting is perceived as matter in transformation.
A Galician artist currently based in New York since 1996, Antonio Murado develops a work halfway between abstraction and the classical conception of landscape, which seeks not so much to reflect nature but to create a new one. At the end of the eighties he opened a small gallery in Lugo, Zú, where avant-garde artists and outstanding representatives of the Central European panorama of the moment will exhibit their work. In parallel, throughout his career he has held exhibitions of his work in galleries in Spain, the United States, Holland, Belgium, Australia, Canada, Austria, Portugal and various North American countries, with a special mention for the retrospective that the CGAC in Santiago de Compostela dedicated to him in 2002. He is currently represented in outstanding collections such as the Marugame-Hirai Museum in Japan, the Fine Arts Museum of Alava, the CGACG in Santiago, the Spanish and Ibero-American Museum of Contemporary Art in Cáceres, the Sofía Imber Museum in Caracas, the National Heritage of Spain, the Chase Manhattan Bank Collection and the Philip Morris Collection in New York, among others.
