DESCRIPTION
CASIMIRO MARTÍNEZ TARRASSÓ (Barcelona, 1898 - 1980)
"Landscape".
Oil on board.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 17 × 21.5 cm, 37 × 42.5 cm (frame).
The vibration of color dominates this small but intense landscape view, where Tarrassó builds the space through a free and impastoed brushstroke, close to the Fauvist sensibility. The forms dissolve in chromatic stains that prioritize light perception and emotion over detailed description.
The composition is articulated through a path that leads the eye towards the background, while the color planes -blues, violets, greens and ochers- intertwine generating an enveloping atmosphere. The pictorial gesture, visible and spontaneous, brings dynamism to the surface, reinforcing the immediate character of the work.
Casimiro Martínez Tarrassó trained at the La Lonja School in Barcelona and in Paris, where he came into contact with modern trends such as Fauvism. His work, centered mainly on landscape, developed between Catalonia and Mallorca, the island where he settled in 1940 and which would profoundly mark his production. He exhibited since 1928 in several Spanish cities, participated in National Exhibitions and received several awards between the 1960s and 1970s. His work is preserved in collections and museums, especially in Mallorca.
