ROBERT LLIMÓS (Barcelona, 1943)
"Levitat", 1983
Oil on canvas.

Measurements: 88 x 115 cm; 93 x 120 cm (frame)
In "Levitat", Robert Llimós constructs a scene of serene appearance where two naked female figures, facing each other, are arranged on an intense chromatic plane that organizes the whole composition. More than a narrative, the work poses a balance between presences, almost like a silent dialogue.
The landscape, synthesized in strips of color, refers to a refined Mediterranean vision, while the signs and strokes introduce a slight tension that shifts the image towards the conceptual. This combination defines Llimós' painting in the eighties: a simplified figuration, with classical roots, reinterpreted with a contemporary language.
Llimós became known in 1964, with a joint exhibition with, among others, Arranz Bravo, Bartolozzi and Gerard Sala. His work can be found in such prominent collections as the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the Espirito Santo Museum of Modern Art in Brazil, the Contemporary Art Collection in Madrid, the Fine Arts Museums of Alava and Seville, the Fondazione Lucio Amelio in Naples, the Salvador Allende International Museum of Resistance in Santiago de Chile, the Peter Stuyvesant Foundation in Amsterdam, the Palau Solleric in Palma de Mallorca and the MACBA in Barcelona, among others.
