FRANCISCO TOLEDO (Juchitán, Oaxaca, 1940 - Oaxaca, 2019)
"Frog", 2009.
Ink and watercolor on Fabriano paper.
Signed.
Attached certificate of the author.
In this drawing, Francisco Toledo gives form to a hybrid creature that transcends naturalistic representation to enter a symbolic and poetic universe. The animal, of vibrant chromatism and precise drawing, is constructed through a combination of line and stain that reveals both technical control and gestural freedom.
Francisco Toledo was one of the key figures of contemporary Latin American art. He developed a solid international career with exhibitions in cities such as New York, Paris, London and Geneva, and his work is part of important public and private collections worldwide.
Committed to culture and territory, he promoted numerous institutions in Mexico, among them the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO) and the Museo Taller Erasto Cortés (Puebla), to which he contributed decisively through donations and the management of its collection.
Recognized both for his artistic production and for his cultural and social activism, he received distinctions such as the National Prize for Sciences and Arts (1998), the Prince Claus Award (2000) and the Right Livelihood Award (2005).
