FRANCISCO TOLEDO (Juchitán, Oaxaca, 1940 - Oaxaca, 2019)
"Crocodiles", 2005.
Ink and gouache on Fabriano paper.
Signed.
Attached certificate of the author.
Measurements: 22,8 x 7,7 cm.
In "Crocodiles", Francisco Toledo unfolds his fantastic imaginary through a hybrid creature, constructed with a formal freedom that oscillates between the animal and the symbolic. The figure, with soft contours and vibrant colors, is inserted into a synthetic space where gesture and matter take center stage.
Francisco Toledo was one of the key figures of Latin American contemporary art. He developed a solid international career with exhibitions in cities such as New York, Paris, London or Geneva, and his work is part of important public and private collections worldwide.
Committed to culture and territory, he promoted numerous institutions in Mexico, among them the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO) and the Museo Taller Erasto Cortés (Puebla), to which he contributed decisively through donations and the management of its collection.
Recognized both for his artistic production and for his cultural and social activism, he received distinctions such as the National Prize for Sciences and Arts (1998), the Prince Claus Award (2000) and the Right Livelihood Award (2005).
