In La Plage, Carlos Nadal constructs a vibrant and spontaneous scene where the coastal landscape is transformed into a space of rhythm and color. Far from a naturalistic representation, the artist synthesizes the beach in essential forms and agile brushstrokes, almost childish in appearance, but deeply conscious in their composition.
The huts, flags and human figures are organized as signs within a dynamic scenario, where the sea and the sky merge in a changing atmosphere. The loose brushstrokes and expressive use of color - blues, grays and vivid accents - convey a sense of immediacy, evoking both the movement of the wind and summer life.
Heir to the spirit of the Parisian avant-garde and close to the Fauvist tradition, Nadal develops his own language based on gestural freedom and formal simplification. His scenes, halfway between memory and observation, capture not so much a specific place as the emotion of the moment, turning the everyday into an intense and luminous pictorial experience.
Works like this one, dated around 1980, correspond to one of the most consolidated moments of his production, especially appreciated in the market for its freshness, compositional balance and visual clarity.
Son of a painter and trained in Barcelona, Carles Nadal developed a career between Spain, Paris and Belgium, where he consolidated his language. Influenced by Fauvism, his work is characterized by the exaltation of color and a free figuration. He exhibited internationally and his work is present in collections such as MACBA and museums in Brussels and Belgium.
