In this work, Mira condenses several essential features of his artistic language: the frontal figure, the bold black line, the chromatic intensity, and an iconography rich in symbolic resonance. The figure advances holding a lit torch, transformed into a presence that straddles ritual, mask, and symbol—a hallmark of the artist’s visionary universe. The figure, with an appearance that is both archaic and contemporary, reflects one of Mira’s central concerns: the human being as a traveler, witness, and bearer of an inner experience.

Víctor Mira was a Spanish artist born in Zaragoza in 1949 and who died in Munich in 2003. Self-taught, he developed an intense and personal body of work in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, installation, printmaking, and writing. His artistic language combines the figurative tradition with informalist techniques and a profound symbolic charge.

His work is represented in institutions such as MoMA in New York, MACVAC in Vilafamés, ARTIUM Museoa, the BBVA Collection, and other public and private collections.
