Isabel Cid was a Catalan painter who devoted her entire life to art and developed a highly personal pictorial language, halfway between figuration and abstraction, characterized by geometric and industrial forms and an intense use of color. A student of Rafael Benet, she began her career successfully by exhibiting at the Syra Gallery in Barcelona and won a medal at the Alexandria Biennale. During the 1950s and 1960s, she lived in Germany and Mexico, where she continued to paint and exhibit, but upon her return to Barcelona, she found a very different art scene that made it difficult to promote her work. She passed away in 2009, leaving a legacy of more than 150 paintings and numerous drawings and writings, the rediscovery of which has helped to reevaluate her career in recent years.
