DESCRIPTION
RICARDO MONTESINOS MORA (Madrid, 1942–2018).
“Woman with a Cloak.”
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner. Signed and titled on the back.
The frame shows signs of wear.
Measurements: 27 x 22 cm; 44 x 39 cm (with frame).
The female figure emerges from a dark background, barely suggested by dense brushstrokes and shades of green and black. The nude body, rendered in muted ochres and pinks, is bathed in soft light that accentuates the intimate nature of the scene. The loose brushwork and the lack of defined features set the image apart from conventional portraiture and focus attention on the model’s pensive demeanor, rendered through a figurative style rooted in classical tradition and expressive sensibility.
The son of painter Juan Montesinos Maldonado, Ricardo Montesinos Mora was initially trained by his father and later at the Madrid School of Arts. He developed a figurative style focused particularly on landscape, portraiture, and the human figure, and received various awards and honors throughout his career.
