In *Squarci di viola*, Calogero Salemi explores the relationship between painting, volume, and real space. The act of cutting, folding, and layering the canvas transforms the pictorial gesture into a physical intervention, so that emptiness, shadow, and matter actively participate in the construction of the image.

Calogero Salemi is a Sicilian painter. He began painting and sculpting as a teenager. He transitioned from figurative and informal styles to Gash Art, a style he created himself in January 2016. Among his exhibitions, we note: the Innsbruck Art Fair in January 2019 with the “La Telaccia” Gallery in Turin; the Pavia Art Fair in 2018; and the Palazzo della Regione exhibition in Milan in 2017. He held numerous solo exhibitions in 2020 at the Made4art Gallery in Milan. In 2008, he was awarded the title of “Knight of the Italian Republic” by the President of the Italian Republic. Two of his works are housed at the Holy See in Rome (“The Crucifixion” and “Saint Sebastian”).
