This work is a particularly concentrated example of Ferran Arasa’s landscape painting, a genre that formed the backbone of his career and in which he developed a style marked by vitality, at times approaching an expressionist sensibility. The natural motif ceases to function as a mere topographical description and becomes an energetic construction of color and texture—a characteristic feature of his interpretation of Mediterranean landscapes and the lands of the Ebro.

Trained in Tortosa under Ricard Cerveto and later under Antoni Cerveto in Madrid, Arasa held his first exhibition in 1926. In 1932, he won the medal at the Masriera National Competition, and in 1986, he received the Creu de Sant Jordi. His work is represented in the Museu de Tortosa, the Museu d’Art Modern de Tarragona, and the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi.
