Vicente Pimentel was one of the most prominent Dominican artists on the international contemporary scene. Trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo and the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he developed a deeply personal artistic language in which matter, memory, archaeology, and spirituality merge through surfaces of intense textural richness crisscrossed by signs and graphic elements of an ancestral appearance. Based in France since 1976, he exhibited internationally and received major awards, including the National Prize for Visual Arts of the Dominican Republic (2020). His work is part of prominent public and private collections, and his inclusion in the “Paris Noir” exhibition at the Centre Pompidou (2025) confirmed his status as one of the key figures in contemporary Caribbean art.
