The depiction of the tambourine players is directly linked to one of the fundamental themes of Luis Seoane’s work: the revival of Galician folk culture through a thoroughly modern artistic language. The three figures, arranged face-on and closely intertwined, transform the musical scene into a rhythmic composition in which the movement of the arms, hands, and tambourines determines the structure of the work.

Tempera enhances the opacity and clarity of the color fields, bringing the work closer to Seoane’s explorations in printmaking, poster art, and editorial design. This integration of painting and graphic language is one of the most recognizable features of his body of work and reveals his interdisciplinary approach to artistic practice.

Luis Seoane was a painter, printmaker, designer, writer, publisher, and a key figure in the 20th-century Galician cultural revival. Exiled in Buenos Aires since 1936, he carried out extensive artistic and editorial work aimed at preserving and revitalizing Galicia’s cultural identity. His legacy is preserved and promoted primarily by the Luis Seoane Foundation in A Coruña, an institution established using the collections assembled by the artist and his wife, Maruxa Seoane.
