Antón Abreu Bastos began his training in the art world in his father’s workshop (a cabinetmaker), later expanding his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Vigo. His artistic career began with an Expressionist phase, characterized by sparse figurations and dramatic interpretations; he would later move on to childhood reminiscences, dreamlike landscapes… and, even later, to humanized stones, magical archeologies of remarkable sensitivity; in his ongoing quest, he would next turn to austere figures with simplified faces, evoking an air of “eternal rurality”; finally, he would move toward a lyrical landscape style featuring mist, a chromatic atmosphere, and nature implied rather than depicted. His work is held in both private collections and Spanish institutions (the Quiñones de León Museum Collection), as well as in the United States, South America (the Provincial Museum of Tucumán in Argentina…), Europe, and elsewhere.
