Germán Taibo grew up in Buenos Aires, where he emigrated with his family as a child. He began his artistic training in that city and later continued his studies in Paris at the Académie Julien. From Paris, he traveled to his hometown in 1908, where he came into direct contact with Galician artists from the province. He participated in the Regional Exhibitions of Galician Art in 1912 and 1917, while continuing to build his international reputation by exhibiting at both European shows—such as the 1913 Paris Salon (where he won second prize)—and American exhibitions. In this regard, his connection to his adopted country is particularly evident in his participation in Spanish-themed art exhibitions organized at the Witcomb Salon in Buenos Aires. His presence on the Buenos Aires exhibition scene culminated in his solo exhibition in 1910 at this same gallery, as well as his participation in the 1919 Galician Art Exhibition, organized by Fernando García in Buenos Aires. The works exhibited there served as a sort of posthumous tribute to Taibo, given his untimely death that same year. Germán Taibo’s works are currently represented in the Museum of Fine Arts in A Coruña, the Caixanova Collection, the City of A Coruña, and the Museum of Pontevedra, among other public and private collections in Galicia, France, and South America.
