He studied at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he earned a BFA. To prepare for admission, he attended the Circle of Fine Arts and the Museum of Artistic Reproductions. He studied at the San Fernando School with his friends from A Coruña, Zapata and Jun Vasco. Together they traveled to Paris, where they discovered new artistic expressions. A tragic car accident claimed the lives of these two friends, an event that deeply affected the painter. He helped found the A Carón and Galga groups in the late 1970s, which included artists such as Correa Corredoira, Mon Vasco, Fermín Encinar, Alberto Carpo, Pepe Galán, César Otero, and others. The activities of these groups—primarily group exhibitions—continued into the early 1980s. Chelín is an accomplished draftsman who brings to his painting his unique representation of the world from his own perspective, primarily through an abstract style and a refined technique. Winner of the Isaac Díaz Pardo Prize in 1999 and 2000, Chelín has exhibited both solo and in group shows in A Coruña, Santiago, Vigo, Madrid, Salamanca… Caracas, Nantes… His work is held in the ONCE Foundation Collection.
