An artist renowned for his vast body of work—both in terms of the number of pieces produced and their exceptional quality—Jaime Francisco Lorenzo Cabanas—better known as Jaime Cabanas—was, according to critic Joaquín Lens, the leading figure of the late 1970s and early 1980s in all the innovative movements of Galician visual arts. His style was characterized by its instantly recognizable iconography, as well as by his exceptional talent for capturing the mysterious and alluring—sometimes tremendously lyrical or dramatic—aspects of painting in the new millennium. He exhibited his work at the Kiosko Alfonso in A Coruña, although for 15 years he remained on the sidelines of the exhibitions taking place within the Galician art scene, to the point of “marginalizing himself,” according to certain Galician critics.
