BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

VÍCTOR MIRA (Zaragoza, 1949 – Munich, 2003).
“Walkers,” 1989.
Mixed media on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner. Signed, dated, and titled.
Measurements: 65 x 54 cm; 70 x 58 cm (frame).
During the 1980s, Mira created several works featuring “Caminantes.” The Artium Museum of Contemporary Art in Vitoria has two works on the same theme and with a similar aesthetic. These are anthropomorphic figures of totemic conception, influenced by a primitive and anthropological aesthetic. This work depicts an entire family. However, none of the figures display a specific identity, as their appearance is based on symbolism. Aesthetically, the work shows a strong influence from the work of Miró, particularly evident in the rendering of the faces.
Víctor Mira was a sculptor, painter, printmaker, and writer who was largely self-taught. He made his debut at a very young age with a solo exhibition in Zaragoza and, after spending time in Madrid, Germany, and Barcelona, embarked on a distinguished international career. He exhibited in countries such as Germany, the United States, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Colombia, Belgium, and Austria, in addition to exhibiting regularly in Spain. In 2003, he received the Award for Best Living Spanish Artist at the ARCO art fair, shortly before his death. His works are part of major international museums and collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), the Reina Sofía Museum, the MACBA, and other prominent Spanish museums.
