José Paredes Jardiel was a Spanish painter. After studying various fields, including law, architecture, and medicine, he studied fine arts at the San Fernando Academy from 1949 to 1953. He traveled to Paris (1953) and Italy (1956), and upon his return, he studied film set design at the Official Film School of Madrid. In his early years, he painted in an informalist style with Cubist influences, but beginning in 1961, he shifted to New Figuration. In 1962, he was one of the founders of the Hondo group, which reacted against total abstraction in art. He participated in the group exhibition *Eros and Contemporary Art in Spain* at Gloria Kirby and Fernando Vijande’s Vandrès Gallery in 1970. Many of his paintings are housed at the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid. He died in Villajoyosa (Alicante) in 2000.
