European landscapes took on a prominent role in Josep Verdaguer’s mature period, following his training in Paris and his subsequent international travels and exhibitions. In this view of the Seine, the artist articulates the space through a succession of water, a bridge, architecture, and trees, integrating the Parisian cityscape into a humid and ever-changing atmosphere.

Verdaguer avoids a picturesque depiction of Paris, focusing instead on its river activity and the relationship between architecture, vegetation, and water. The subdued color palette of the sky and buildings enhances the luminous highlights of the boats and foliage, while the slightly elevated perspective allows both banks to be clearly taken in. The work thus reflects his ability to imbue the urban landscape with an intimate and atmospheric dimension.

Trained at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts, Verdaguer continued his studies in Madrid and Paris. He exhibited in cities such as Paris, Stockholm, Chicago, Tel Aviv, Vienna, and Madrid, and created various mural ensembles in churches and public buildings throughout Catalonia. In recognition of his career, he was awarded the Medal of Honor of Barcelona.
