The farmland and rural architecture of Pollença constitute one of the most representative themes in Llorenç Cerdà’s paintings. In this work, the figure of the peasant woman is integrated into a cultivated landscape that retains its local identity, yet which the artist transforms through his intense focus on Mediterranean light.

The brushstrokes—brief and impasto—take center stage in the vegetables, trees, and whitewashed walls, whose surfaces shimmer under the bright light. The treatment of color reveals Cerdà’s evolution toward a luminist style of landscape painting, influenced by his contact with Joaquín Sorolla during his formative years in Rome. The presence of the figures also introduces a costumbrista dimension that links the landscape to the traditional agricultural life of northern Mallorca.

Trained in Palma and Madrid, Llorenç Cerdà furthered his studies in Rome between 1885 and 1886 and subsequently developed an extensive career dedicated primarily to Balearic landscapes. Associated with the artistic circle in Pollença, he also carried out notable work as a teacher and went on to direct the School of Arts and Crafts and the Museum of Fine Arts in Palma. His work is represented at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani in Palma, which houses his 1906 painting *El cingle verd d’Ariant*, and the Prado Museum has several of the artist’s paintings in its collection.
