In “Purpose,” Tatia Bogveli combines figuration and abstraction in a composition dominated by the powerful presence of a bull. The monumentality of the animal is a hallmark of the pictorial setting, which lacks precise spatial references and integrates the animal into a surface of intense ornamental and textural character.

The dark silhouette is constructed through a dense layering of plant motifs, spirals, and small organic forms in shades of orange and gold. Bogveli thus brings together the animal’s powerful figurative presence with a treatment bordering on abstraction, while the background—articulated through blues, violets, greens, and earth tones—incorporates stenciling, glazes, splatters, and variations in texture. The result is a layered surface in which color and texture take on as much significance as the depicted motif itself.

Tatia Bogveli is a Georgian artist whose work spans landscape, figuration, and abstraction. Her artistic language is characterized by intense color, rich surfaces, and a gestural practice in which she combines layers, textures, and ornamental motifs. Through these techniques, she explores the expressive and emotional possibilities of color, making the painterly medium one of the central elements of her work.
