Cayetano de Arquer Buigas is a portraitist acclaimed by critics for his personal interpretation of women, the central theme of his work, with his depictions of women’s nape of the neck being particularly renowned. His work is intimate and small in scale, a far cry from the monumental style practiced by other artists in his family, such as his great-uncle Carlos Buigas Sans, creator of light installations and gardens around the world, or his great-grandfather Cayetano Buigas Monravà, the architect who designed the Columbus Monument in Barcelona.
