The large format allows Maria Antonia Hernández Subirachs to create a painting with a distinctly atmospheric quality, in which landscape and abstraction blend together. The composition is organized through broad, dark, earthy masses, interrupted by the luminosity of the sky and by an intense burst of pink that transforms the space into a vision that is more evocative than descriptive. The artist works with glazes, broad strokes, and areas of varying pictorial density, allowing forms to emerge and dissolve on the canvas. The oval, almost stony structures introduce an enigmatic element into a landscape that seems constructed from memory and perception.

With a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, Hernández Subirachs has developed a career focused primarily on painting, with a special emphasis on landscape, color, and the expressive possibilities of the medium. She has been selected for competitions such as the Joan Miró International Drawing Prize, the Sala Parés Young Artists’ Painting Prize, the Ynglada Guillot Prize, and the Fundació Mútua de Barcelona Painting Biennial, and has twice won the Raimond Maragall Prize from Sala Parés. She has held solo exhibitions at venues such as Espai (b), Espai Tectum, and the Palau Falguera in Sant Feliu de Llobregat.
