The work now up for auction stands as a comprehensive allegory of the Fine Arts and Art History, bringing together—in a composition with surrealist and metaphysical elements—the defining attributes of the great creative disciplines: Painting, represented by the easel bearing Matisse’s famous “The Dance” by Matisse, the palette, and the tubes of oil paint; Music, symbolized by the virtuosic coexistence of the lute, the violin, the guitar, and the flute; Sculpture, alluded to through the central pedestal, the ovoid form, and the carving chisels; Literature and the Graphic Arts, represented by the book bindings, prints, and drawing instruments; and Architecture, articulated through an allegorical landscape that contrasts the Pyramids and the Sphinx of ancient Egypt with the Colosseum and the classical Greco-Roman temples.

Rachid Assaiev is a painter trained at the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts under the guidance of I. Korolev. His work is rooted in the strong figurative tradition of Soviet painting, developing a visual language of great technical precision that at times borders on hyperrealism. Particularly noteworthy are his ambitious allegorical compositions created during the 1980s, dedicated to disciplines such as music, painting, sculpture, architecture, and navigation, as well as his works related to science and Soviet space exploration. His painting is characterized by precise drawing, careful spatial construction, and remarkable attention to detail—techniques through which he transforms everyday objects, figures, and scenes into complex compositions with symbolic content.
