"Venus", belonging to the series Sleeping Beauties, is a work of great visual delicacy and symbolic load in which Nani Serrano explores the border between beauty, silence and absence. The image presents a female body at rest, enveloped by white glazes that dilute the contours and generate an ethereal, almost weightless atmosphere. The face, with soft features and serene expression, partially emerges between layers of light and transparency, evoking a state of suspension between dream and disappearance.
The work is based on a fragment of the Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel, reinterpreted from a contemporary perspective that transforms the classical ideal of beauty into a reflection on the fragility of the body and the transcendence of the soul. The figure is not shown as an object of idealized contemplation, but as a being who abandons herself, who symbolically "lets herself die" in order to reconnect with a purer and more spiritual essence.
The use of the airbrush allows the artist to achieve extremely smooth transitions, without brushstrokes, reinforcing the sensation of silence, calm and dissolution. The light, diffuse and enveloping, becomes a fundamental narrative element, suggesting that "dreamed paradise" to which the author herself alludes: a space of absence of pain, where the body fades away and beauty persists beyond the physical.
Nani Serrano is a Spanish visual artist with a background in graphic design and advertising drawing, who later specialized in airbrushing, a technique she masters with great virtuosity. Her work is characterized by the fusion of art and illustration, establishing a dialogue between photography, historical painting and contemporary visual languages.
She has been included in the catalog "Spanish Illustrators" (Ed. Lunwerg) and has exhibited in various cultural spaces and galleries such as Agora 3 (Sitges), Art Window, Espace Cultural Ample and Expo_7, among others. His work constantly reflects on the representation of the female body in the history of art and advertising, approaching it from a poetic, critical and deeply sensory point of view.
