PEDRO MORENO MEYERHOFF (Barcelona, 1954).
"Still life of sea".1984.

The painting shows a still life set in a coastal landscape, an approach characteristic of the work of Pedro Moreno Meyerhoff, where isolated objects acquire a strong symbolic and contemplative value. On the sand, in the foreground, fragments of eroded wood, cylindrical remains, seashells and earthy spheres are arranged with an almost ritual precision, as if they were vestiges detained in time.
This way of presenting natural elements -isolated, carefully arranged and separated from any narrative anecdote- is typical of Moreno Meyerhoff's language, which combines meticulous realism and an atmosphere of metaphysical silence. Objects do not function as mere descriptive motifs, but as autonomous presences, charged with poetic and existential resonances.
The space opens up to a serene marine horizon, reduced to a bluish strip that separates the sand from the sky. The composition is built from large planes of color and a low perspective, habitual resources in the artist to emphasize the sensation of immobility and contemplation. The light is clear and homogeneous, without violent hallmarks, reinforcing the impression of suspended time.
The texture of the sand, worked with a rich and subtle material, is another distinctive feature of his painting: the meticulous treatment of the surfaces gives the work an intense physical presence, while the restrained chromatism - ochers, beiges and soft blues - maintains an austere and meditative harmony.
Pedro Moreno Meyerhoff is a Spanish painter linked to contemporary realism. His work began to gain visibility in the late seventies, with his first solo exhibition organized in 1979 at the Bank of America Gallery in Barcelona. From then on, he consolidated his presence in the Spanish art circuit during the following decades with exhibitions in spaces such as the Paco Rebés Gallery in Barcelona and the Palacio de la Merced in Cordoba. Since the 1990s he has maintained a stable relationship with the Galerie Claude Bernard in Paris, where he has regularly presented his solo work, as well as at European contemporary and realist art fairs, including ARCO Madrid and FIAC Paris. Part of his work is included in collections such as that of the "la Caixa" Foundation or the Kunstmuseum Wuppertal in Germany.
