DESCRIPTION
AMELIA MENDIVIL BLANCO (Puebla, Mexico, 1961).
"Rodin's dream", 2007.
Oil on canvas glued to board.
Signed and dated.
Measurements: 120 x 240 cm.
Amelia Mendivil's painting portrays a reality that seems to her to be pure encounter, something that appears before her eyes, unexpectedly, in the course of time. However, her work is full of personal choices, from the place where she places her gaze to the way she composes and understands her paintings. A fact that is, in fact, universal for any artist. She shows us her paintings as a historical journey in which her initial dialogues with painting are mixed with the memories of her ancestors, her vital spaces and with some of the artists who have marked her: Camille Claudel, Auguste Rodin, Frida Khalo, and who have guided her artistic production. In her landscapes Amelia opens the windows of the world. A world without borders that show the landscapes that saw her birth: Puebla and its domes, the Popocatepetl volcano, Cuetzalan... And the return road that took her to Asturias, whose windows open on this occasion with the animals that come out to meet her.
Amelia Mendivil was born in Puebla, Mexico and has lived in Madrid since 1987. She studied Fine Arts at the College of New Rochelle N.Y. and has a Master's Degree in Art from New York University NYU. She has participated in several group exhibitions at the Galería Blanca Soto, Museo de la Casa de la Moneda and the Fran Daurel Foundation, among others, and solo exhibitions in New York and Puebla, Mexico.
