Inspired by The Descent from the Cross by Caravaggio, Alpha and Omega (End) is a contemporary re-reading of baroque dramatism, where the emotional tension of the fallen body faces a cold, almost mathematical structure. The central scene - a falling male figure, defeated and suspended - recalls the chiaroscuro and theatricality of the great masters of the Baroque, but is transferred here to a modern visual language, where painting coexists with geometry and abstraction. On a deep Prussian blue background, the figures are fragmented and multiplied, represented with angular strokes, as if they were planes or emotional anatomical studies. This geometrization dialogues with the three-dimensional lattice of one of the polyhedra of the Weaire-Phelan model, a spatial structure that represents the best known way of filling a three-dimensional space with cells of minimal surface. Thus, the work contrasts the organicity of the body with the scientific precision of the optimal volume. The use of this geometric development suggests a look at the body as a container of space, matter and energy, alluding to our own internal architecture and how we inhabit the world.
Jesús Fernández Escobar's initial training in Mechanical Engineering profoundly influenced his understanding of forms, balance and structural precision, elements that are still present in his pictorial language. He later oriented his path towards the visual arts, obtaining a Master's Degree in Art from the University of Seville in 2020, where he is currently developing his research as a doctoral student in Art and Heritage. Throughout his career he has received several awards, including the 1st Prize of Painting Puerta de Segura (Jaén, 2014), as well as being a finalist in competitions such as Emilio Ollero (2015 and 2016), the Ibercaja Prize (2015), the Mercedes Fernández Contest (2017) and Carta Puebla (Ciudad Real, 2025).
His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions both in Spain and internationally, highlighting shows in spaces such as Art Cuestion Gallery (Madrid), M.A.D. Gallery (Milan) or ART FAIR Malaga. He has also participated in exhibitions such as Vandelvira (Úbeda, 2020), Utopía (Morón de la Frontera, 2020), La Modelo y los Artistas (Úbeda, 2019) and Línea (Jaén, 2018), as well as exhibiting continuously since 2012 at the Santa Clara Museum in Zafra. His paintings are part of private collections in different countries in Europe, the United States, China or Mexico. He currently develops his work from his studio in Puente de Génave (Jaén), where he continues to explore new pictorial possibilities within his artistic research.
