BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JANO MUÑOZ (A Coruña, 1971).
“Thoughtful Woman,” 2002.
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner. Titled and dated on the reverse.
Measurements: 92 x 65 cm; 105 x 77 cm (frame).

With an early passion for art, he began his training at the Pablo Picasso School of Arts in his hometown in 1986, and six years later he graduated with a specialization in three-dimensional techniques. That same year, he held his first exhibition at that school and went on to exhibit in other cities in Galicia until he moved to Barcelona, where he quickly settled in and began to showcase his work, after exhibiting at the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Young Artists Gallery and at La Caixa’s gallery in Barcelona. He participated in the sixth edition of the prestigious Unión Fenosa Exhibition in 1999. He won an award in the selection titled “Twenty-Five Young Artists of Catalonia” and was a finalist for the Kronenbour Prize in Barcelona. Recently, his paintings have been exhibited in Italy. Jano Muñoz’s painting is conceptual and reflective, rooted in an intense exploration of geometric structures. His landscape painting is rooted in hyperrealism—a movement whose leading Spanish figure is Antonio López García—though Muñoz, a Galician artist, employs a more subdued color palette and imbues his forms with the intensity of polyhedrons in space, adding mystery to his chromatic results in grays and ochres while deliberately distorting perspective. His work can also be seen as an exercise in strokes and intersecting lines, serving as a constructive structure of great simplicity and beauty. VI Mostra Unión Fenosa, A Coruña, 1999.
