The “Heroes” series (2025) continues Edgard Plans’ exploration of collective memory, popular culture, and the construction of contemporary imaginaries. Through his characteristic characters with large eyes and an enigmatic presence, the artist transforms figures drawn from the world of children’s culture and comics into symbols imbued with emotion, identity, and reflection.
His protagonists, as in this case, straddle the line between innocence and melancholy, functioning as archetypes of a society marked by nostalgia and the search for role models. Beneath a playful and colorful exterior, Plans offers a deeper exploration of the human condition, the desire to belong, and the need to find new models of heroism in today’s world.
Trained from a young age in the studio of artist José María Ramos, Plans began his professional career at age 17 by establishing his own studio, located in the former workshop of Nicanor Piñole. His work has gained significant international recognition, with participation in numerous art fairs and exhibitions in Europe, Asia, and the United States, and is included in major private and institutional collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Havana, Cuba; the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias; the Eduardo Úrculo Art Gallery; the Illuro Foundation, “Masters of Contemporary Art,” the Laboral Contemporary Art Center, the La Caixa Foundation, the Cristina Peterson Foundation, the Masaveu Foundation, and the Regional Government of the Principality of Asturias, among many others.
