This jug embodies the characteristic features of English silverwork from the Georgian period, combining functional elegance, balanced proportions, and meticulous decoration. The ornate decoration, in the Rococo style, is concentrated both on the surface of the vessel and on its structural elements, particularly the handle and base, whose sculptural treatment is a hallmark of simplicity compared to the main body.
Thomas Shepherd was a silversmith active in London during the second half of the 18th century, specializing in the production of tableware and household items.
