The Waterman Le Man 100 Patrician Codex, limited to 300 units, is one of the most exclusive editions created by Waterman in the 1990s. Released in 1997 exclusively for the Spanish and Portuguese markets, it was produced in a run of 300 pieces per color (blue and red), making it a highly rare item within the Le Man 100 collection.

Its design is based on the prestigious Waterman Le Man 100 Patrician, whose marbled resin barrel—in this case, blue—is partially visible through a spectacular openwork sterling silver sleeve that envelops both the barrel and the cap. The intricate geometric motif reproduces the Mozarabic interlacing patterns inspired by the decoration of the famous Beatus of Liébana, specifically the 10th-century copy created for Ferdinand I and Doña Sancha by the scribe Facundo, establishing an elegant link between fine calligraphy and Spain’s medieval artistic heritage.

From a collector’s perspective, the Patrician Codex stands out for combining Waterman’s technical excellence with meticulous historical inspiration and an extremely limited production run. Its exclusive distribution in the Iberian Peninsula, the elaborate openwork silver design, and the thoughtful nod to the art of medieval codices make this fountain pen one of the French firm’s most coveted special editions and a piece of extraordinary interest to collectors of high-end writing instruments.
