Measurements: 32 x 38 x 15 cm.
The clock is crowned by a spherical dial, imitating a globe or celestial globe, with Roman numerals for the hours distributed on a dark background, in patinated bronze. The dial is supported by a central figure of a majestic eagle, with outstretched wings, sculpted in gilded bronze. The eagle, imperial symbol par excellence, was a recurring motif in the art and iconography of the Second French Empire, evoking the glory of the First Napoleonic Empire. The base of the watch is equally elaborate and ostentatious. It presents a polygonal shape, also in gilded bronze or with gilded patina, profusely decorated with vegetal elements, such as acanthus leaves and garlands, and scroll motifs. This ornamentation is characteristic of the taste for decorative exuberance and richness of detail that defined the Napoleon III style, which often drew inspiration from and blended elements of the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. The base rests on small turned legs.
