DESCRIPTION
Tail clock; Holland, 18th century.
Oak wood; polychrome metal dial.
Presents signature.
Measurements: 130 x 44 x 20 cm.
This wall clock, belonging to the traditional Frisian type or Friese Staartklok, is a characteristic example of the domestic clockmaking of the north of the Netherlands. Made of oak wood, it has a vertical structure topped by an upper body that houses the front plate with the polychrome dial, richly decorated with gilded motifs, in the popular Dutch taste.
Behind the dial is hidden the brass machinery, which regulates the movement of the pendulum and the weight system.
