DESCRIPTION
MARIA ASSUMPCIÓ RAVENTÓS I TORRAS (Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Barcelona, 1930).
"Encounter in Marrakech", 1973.
Hand-woven tapestry.
With label.
Measurements: 125 x 120 cm.
Initially, Maria Assumpció was dedicated to engraving, but later she opted for the creation of tapestries like the one we are dealing with, being an outstanding member of the Catalan School of Grau-Garriga and Susanna Rolando in San Cugat del Vallés.
Trained at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi, in Barcelona, Raventós furthered her studies in engraving and lithography at the Friedlaender workshop (Paris) and at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. He also made a trip to the Orient to study Japanese printmaking. He has held twenty-three solo exhibitions of his work since 1955, mainly in Spain but also abroad. Raventós is represented at the MACBA in Barcelona, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, the Rufino Tamayo in Mexico and the International Museum of Fine Arts in Guinea.
