The author of this work presents us with a theatrical scene where the divine and the earthly merge with each other in such a way that the limits are blurred. A great court of musical angels descends from the sky to contemplate the birth of Jesus. That in this particular case is not placed in the center of the scene, as usual, but is displaced to the left of the composition.
During the 19th century, symbolism was one of the currents that rescued themes linked to religion. Due to historical events, these themes had lost the prominence of previous eras. However, it was the symbolists interested in iconography, in the emotion and devotion implicit in this type of representations who continued to give them prominence.
