The painter of this eighteenth-century composition represents three elegant characters playing chess in an ostentatious interior. It is a magnificent example of the painting called "de casacones", characterized by the meticulousness of the description and the luminous sensibility. This was one of the most demanded by the public during the 19th century. They were genre scenes set in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and its name comes from the coats with which the male protagonists were dressed.
