Enrique Galwey García, outstanding representative of the Catalan landscape painting of the end of the XIX century, offers here a serene and luminous vision of nature. The composition is structured in wide planes of vegetation and soft mountains, while the sky, resolved with light brushstrokes and transparent atmosphere, envelops the scene in an air of Mediterranean calm.
A landscape painter trained at the La Lonja School in Barcelona, Enrique Galwey began his career with Joaquín Vayreda at the Olot School. He founded, together with Modesto Urgell and Luis Graner, the Artistic and Literary Society of Catalonia, and left testimonies about his time in the book Lo que he visto en casa Parés (1934). His work is present in collections such as the Prado Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona.
