This work, created in 1951, one of Pere Pruna’s periods of greatest artistic maturity, is a magnificent example of his poetic universe, characterized by female figures of idealized beauty, silent atmospheres, and a refined formal synthesis rooted in Noucentisme and enriched by the teachings of Italian classicism.
The young woman, absorbed in contemplating the dove she holds in her hands, is the focal point of a composition of great serenity and balance. The Mediterranean architecture open to the sea, the delicate palette of whites, ochres, and blues, and the refined stylization of the figure create a scene of profound intimacy, where light and silence take on a marked symbolic value. The dove, a frequent emblem of purity, peace, or spirituality, introduces a lyrical dimension that intensifies the contemplative nature of the composition.
The brushwork is subtle and restrained, with soft tonal transitions that shape the forms without losing the clarity of the drawing—one of the artist’s hallmarks. The linear elegance, chromatic harmony, and monumental quality of the figure make this painting a work that fully embodies Pere Pruna’s most recognizable artistic language.

Trained in the Noucentista movement in Barcelona, Pere Pruna settled in Paris in 1921, where he enjoyed the support of Pablo Picasso and exhibited with notable success at the Galerie Percier. He collaborated with Serge Diaghilev on set designs for the Ballets Russes and pursued an international career that earned him major accolades, including the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh Award and the Nonell Prize. His work is part of the collections of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), the Museu de Montserrat, and other prominent public and private institutions.
