AMALIO GARCÍA DEL MORAL (Granada, 1922 – Seville, 1995)
“The Fortune Teller.”
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 116.5 x 81 cm; 132 x 97 cm (frame).
This work is an interesting example of Amalio García del Moral’s figurative painting, in which the meticulous rendering of the figure and the attention to textural qualities take center stage. In *The Fortune-Teller*, the artist develops a realistic approach to representation, based on precise drawing, well-defined volumes, and meticulous rendering of surfaces. The work suggests an intriguing aesthetic affinity with the painting titled *La adivina* by the Chilean artist Claudio Bravo.
Amalio García del Moral was a painter, draftsman, printmaker, and poet. He trained at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid and later pursued a distinguished teaching career as a professor at the universities of Seville and Madrid. His work, characterized by technical diversity and a combination of realism and symbolism, gained recognition within the Andalusian art scene. Among his distinctions is the 1970 grant from the Juan March Foundation for the study of the Andalusian landscape. His paintings are included in public collections such as those of the Reina Sofía National Art Museum in Madrid and the Linares Municipal Art Gallery. A significant portion of his legacy is also preserved at the Amalio Foundation in Seville.
