DESCRIPTION
FRANCESC GUINART CANDELICH (Sant Celoni, Barcelona, 1888–1974).
“Copacabana,” Brazil, 1951.

Signed, dated, titled, and located on the reverse.
Measurements: 28.5 x 43 cm; 30.5 x 45 cm (frame).
Trained at the School of Fine Arts of La Lonja in Barcelona, Guinart exhibited his works at the Salons in Lisbon, Amsterdam, and Groningen (Netherlands), at the Autumn Salons in Madrid and Paris, and at the Venice Biennale. Also noteworthy is the tribute exhibition dedicated to him in his hometown. Among his awards were the Diploma of Honor at the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition and the Laureate Medal at the 1932 Madrid National Exhibition. He regularly participated in the Spring Exhibitions in Barcelona, where he won awards in 1933 and 1935; in 1936, he received a grant to travel to the Americas. Based in Argentina until 1948, Guinart exhibited his works, which featured Catalan themes, throughout South America. Francesc Guinart’s works are represented in the National Museums of Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, and Granollers, as well as in the Rosa Galisteo de Rodríguez Museum in Santa Fe, Argentina, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro.
